About Us
The Story of Peggy:
Our Resident Bookworm
Peggy is the ultimate symbol of all of us who have reached “our golden years.” She has traversed the desert and she’s got the scars and bruises to prove it. But she trudges on, learning, adapting and surviving. She is the ultimate symbol of Resilience. With a wink and a smile! And she’s got some stories to tell about her adventures along the way.
Peggy also represents the most profound kind of connection a reader can have. For 15 years, my friend Peggy and I shared our lives, our secrets, and our souls through the simple medium of email. We never met, never saw a photo, and wouldn’t have recognized each other if we were seated next to each other on a crowded bus. Yet, through a shared love of story-telling, we built a bond more intimate than many people find in a lifetime of face-to-face meetings.
Peggy the Camel is a tribute to that friendship. Peggy reminds us that:
- Distance is no barrier to connection and belonging.
- Stories are the ultimate bridge: Sharing your story is sharing a piece of your soul, and discussing it is how we truly come to ‘see’ one another.
- Stories outlive the storyteller: Though the real Peggy is gone, the curiosity and warmth she shared continue through every story we share together.
So, when you see Peggy remember that you don’t need to ‘see’ someone to truly know them. You just need to listen to their story.
